Hi, I’m Brett Newski. I write heaps of songs and tour my face off in an effort to keep my A.D.D. under control. There are two people who refer to my style as, "American Folk Armageddon,” which happens to be the name of my new record. Other people tell me I sound like Violent Femmes, Frank Turner, Jake Bugg and Ben Kweller. In 2011, I was job-less, girl-less and band-less so I bought a one-way ticket to Bangkok and wandered around for six months, recording in dirt-floored makeshift studios in the hills of Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Philippines. Lost, I moved to Saigon, Vietnam on a $100 motor-scooter. I soon found myself writing music for tampon ads for Saatchi and Saatchi where the creative director called me “The Vagina King of Vietnam.” Back in ‘‘Nam,, I wrote nearly 100 power-folk songs. After two years and two albums, I choked down my final bowl of pig ear soup and boarded a flight to America. Since then, I have graduated from my parent’s basement and spend my time touring the world 200+ dates per year, including Europe, Australia and South Africa. This bizarro odyssey inspired songs about sweet victory, crushing defeat, fleeting freedom, losing my friend and saving my ass. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel…but then again….sometimes that light at the end of the tunnel is a train.
